MEET SABRINA C. NELSON

I am a compassionate leader with a high level of emotional intelligence (EQ); certified life coach, dedicated mentor, motivational speaker, published author, blogger, podcaster and volunteer.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had this desire to help others in need in some manner. I truly understood why people gravitated toward me and knew there was something unique about how I engaged others. My family, friends, partner, etc. have said; “You are such a people person, you’ll even strike up a conversation with a stranger.” Yes, it’s true and this is partially the reason why I found my passion early in my life.

I have remained committed to building communities through advocacy, innovation, strategic planning, and volunteering with institutions and organizations that are committed to uplifting and empowering the community. I am also dedicated to supporting underserved communities.

When I became a visionary member and mentor with the Step Up Women’s Network (SUWN), this opportunity allowed me to inspire young women to abandon their fear and pursue their academic and career goals wholeheartedly. Also, when I was engaged in the “Pathways to Professions” workshops; which provided opportunities for professional women to lend their knowledge, expertise and guidance to enrich the lives of low- income teenagers in need.

I believe the whole point of being alive is to tap into your greatest potential, align your unique talent with your passion and eventually you will find your true purpose in life. When you know the answer to your 'WHY' you can evolve and transform into the person you were meant to be in this world. If you have a pulse then you have a purpose to fulfill.

At the age of 7 years old my parents realized I loved, dancing, playing the piano and several years later I learned how to play the clarinet.  Eventually, I began performing in talent shows and I truly loved demonstrated my talents and fully engaging an audience. I had grown accustomed to winning in my category and age group. However, that dreadful moment occurred I came in second place, and this was certainly a pivotal moment in my life. My father explained to me, “Even though you didn’t win, I’m proud that you tried your best. Understand that you don’t need validation from anyone.”

Throughout my youth and adult life I’ve always understood what my father had conveyed, but sometimes I still felt the need to continue excelling in many areas of my life to be accepted by my friends, family, colleagues, and even partners. I developed this “disease to please” everyone and I paid a hefty price for continuing that behavior for many years. I was very good at providing counseling, compassion, guidance and support for many people in my life. But, I never allowed them to fully reciprocate the compassion, empathy and kind deeds back to me.

My mottos are:

"Team work makes the dream work."

"I live on purpose and with divine purpose everyday!"

Ultimately, it became very exhausting wearing a mask and trying to be strong for everyone around me but never making myself a priority.  Eventually, I turned the lens of self-care on me but some of those same people would make me feel guilty, and eventually I would revert back to the same self-destructive behaviors.

In 2008 the course of my life changed forever. I had lost my oldest sister to lung cancer and six months later my father passed away from a stroke unexpectedly. It was the first time I had experienced an immediate family member dying. I was not mentally or emotionally prepared for my own grieving and healing process, but since I had helped other people it seemed as though everything would be okay.

But, what I’ve learned is that healing is a personal journey and very long process for everyone. This surprised many people but I didn’t care about what they thought, it was now time to fully immerse myself into healing that deep wound and “find myself”.

I decided to courageously begin walking down the path of self-discovery and the unknown in order heal and cure myself of the “disease to please” everyone. It took three years of painful inner work, periods of isolation, and introspection, eventually I emerged like the phoenix rising only to discover my true purpose in life!

Afterward I began to understand what my true calling in life was, I pursued it wholeheartedly. I began thriving again in my profession as a project and facilities management professional, received numerous accolades, praise and compliments from supervisors, executive management and my peers. I was very good at designing beautiful office space that fostered creativity, more collaboration, and enhanced the communication with everyone.

On many occasions I started receiving comments about how I engaged people outside of the realm of my role. Colleagues and business partners began asking me for advice on how to emerge from a place of pain, fear and uncertainty.

At this juncture I started to become fascinated with self-help, self -development, coaching materials and voraciously read books, listened to podcasts, etc. from some of the most well known thought-leaders in the world. I purchased numerous books by Eckhart Tolle, Louise Hay, Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, etc.

One day while watching Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday, I saw a promo for Deepak and Oprah 21-Day Meditation Challenge. Then I discovered that meditation could be a major catalyst to helping you focus on being fully present, cultivate  “active listening” skills and provide a more fulfilling lifestyle.

I have heard it said that, “Anything we do for 21 days straight becomes a habit.” I was fully immersed in meditating after day seven and have never looked back.

It became my life’s passion to understand the fundamental practices of how and what makes people feel seen, heard and understood. Learning and understanding different communication styles (verbal and non-verbal) as well as thought processes. How to create our own reality and how we can get more connected to our heart and soul, so that we may live with more contentment in many areas of our lives.

One day I heard a pastor say;

"Whenever you are in the midst of a breakdown in your life, prepare yourself for a major breakthrough."

Fast forward to June 2013, the pharmaceutical company that I was employed with for almost fifteen years was acquired. I was at another major cross road in my life, but this time it felt very different. Armed with the knowledge gained from my past, I was able to lean into the unknown and assist many of my colleagues with uncertainty regarding their future.  In late 2014 - 2015 most of us received severance packages and exited the company. For the first few months of my unemployment I just relaxed, and embraced this new chapter of my life. One day I thought about how do I want to impact the world going forward. I have always been told that I should write a book. I started writing blogs to motivate, encourage and inspire people – although I was unemployed.

Also, I volunteered at non-profit organization and became a Certified Mentor. In my role I provided established entrepreneurs and new entrepreneurs valuable business advice, tools to help them become more confident in their area of expertise, mentoring and coaching sessions as well.

Ultimately, this was a major catalyst that inspired me to obtain my coaching certification. I delved into these courses with an extraordinary coach that held all of her students accountable for completing the assignments, exams, etc. I made the financial investment in myself and never doubted that I would succeed. I remained committed and dedicated to accomplishing this milestone in my life.

After receiving my Certified Professional Coaching (PCC) certification, it felt rewarding and I was ready to coach and motivate the masses, as well as assist with transforming their lives!

Months later I started writing my manuscript. However, eleven chapters later, I was introduced to someone that thought my writing skills were amazing and offered me the opportunity to become a published author. At first I was hesitant because I thought my solo project was most important.

But after having an introspective moment, I realized this was an opportunity for me to co-author a book with twenty-six extraordinary women. In August of 2016 – “Finding Your Voice – The Assertive and Empowered Woman” was revealed to the world! You can purchase your copy at www.pwnbooks.com.

In 2016 I began broadening my reach and started motivating people via Twitter. At first, this was daunting because my only exposure to social media was via LinkedIn. But, after posting messages on a frequent basis, I started receiving comments on my post and messages in my DM from like-minded people, coaches, and people from different walks of life. All of a sudden I began to realize how my motivational posts and words of wisdom were resonated with so many people around the world!

I have interacted with some extraordinary thought-leaders, motivational speakers, authors, philanthropists, etc. which allowed me to collaborate with them in their business endeavors.

During my coaching sessions, I create a non-judgmental and safe space for  my clients to feel seen, heard, supported and understood. If you need coaching for a specific or several areas of your life, perhaps you are at a crossroad in your career or personal life; and you want to transition into the next level of success, it would be my pleasure to support you on your transformative journey!
